Terms of service.
What we agree to do, what we need from you, how money moves on each of the four routes, and what happens when something goes wrong. Specific where it matters.
This is a working draft, written to describe what the service actually does, and it has not yet been reviewed by a lawyer. It is published so it can be checked — not because it is final. Nothing here overrides what we agree with you in writing. Queries to hello@waybridge.com.ng.
[01]What this agreement is
These terms apply when you ask us to move, buy, or find something for you, and when you carry something for someone else through us. Using the service means accepting them.
We are an agent acting on your instructions. We are not the seller of the goods, we are not the carrier of the aircraft or vessel, and we are not the customs authority. What we are responsible for is described below, in the specific terms rather than in general ones.
[02]The four routes
Each route works differently, and the differences are the parts worth reading.
- Ship-only
- The item is already yours. You send it to our partner address abroad; we ship, clear and deliver it. You pay once it is received at that address, before it moves.
- Buy-for-me
- You send us a product link. We quote the item price plus a service fee of 5–15%, and we buy nothing until that quote is paid in full. We are spending our own money on your behalf, so we do not front it — this is not negotiable and it is not a credit check.
- Local purchase
- You describe what you want; a person on our team searches Nigerian marketplaces and sends you real options with real prices. You pick one, then pay. No customs is involved.
- Traveller-carried
- A verified traveller with spare luggage carries your item. The reward is paid to us before the flight, held, and released to them when delivery is confirmed.
[03]Quotes and prices
A quote is itemised: duty, VAT, shipping, handling, and for buy-for-me the item price and service fee, each on its own line. There is no line we do not show you.
A quote is valid for the window printed on it, between 24 and 48 hours. That is currency exposure, not a sales tactic — we buy in foreign currency and the naira moves. After it expires we requote, usually at a similar figure.
The estimator on our home page uses illustrative duty rates and is not a quote. Real Nigerian duty depends on the specific item’s classification. The estimator exists so the real quote is never a shock, not so it can be held against us.
If customs assesses your item at a higher value than you declared, the additional duty is yours to pay, and we will show you the assessment document that caused it. We do not add charges without showing you where they came from.
[04]What you must tell us truthfully
A customs declaration is a legal statement made in your name. We make it from what you tell us, so what you tell us has to be right: what the item is, what it cost, and what it weighs.
If an item is misdeclared to us and is seized, penalised or destroyed as a result, that loss is yours, and any penalty charged to us for it is recoverable from you. If we accept something that our own prohibited items list should have caught, that is our error and we refund our fees.
[05]Items we will not carry
Our prohibited items list is part of these terms. You confirm at request stage that your item is not on it.
Every item is handed over unsealed and inspected before we accept it. There is no exception to this on any route. If you will not let an item be opened, we will not take it — and we would rather lose the booking than be the reason a traveller is arrested at an airport.
We may refuse or return any item at our discretion, before or after acceptance, if inspection shows it is not what was described. Where we refuse before shipping, we refund what you paid us less any cost already incurred, itemised.
[06]Timelines and delays
We give indicative timings per stage, not guaranteed delivery dates, because clearance and freight are not ours to schedule. What we do guarantee is that you will know where your item is: we flag a shipment as delayed after 3 days at a single customs stage and 5 days at any other, and we tell you without being asked.
A delay is not a breach of this agreement and does not by itself entitle you to a refund. Failing to tell you about one is a failure on our part, and you should hold us to it.
[07]Payment, refunds and escrow
Payments are taken through a licensed payment provider. We never see your card or bank credentials.
Refunds are made to the method you paid with, within ten working days of being agreed.
- Item out of stock (buy-for-me)
- The item price is refunded in full. You choose whether we quote an alternative; we do not substitute without asking.
- Cancelled before we buy or ship
- Full refund less any cost already incurred, shown to you as a line item.
- Cancelled after shipping
- Freight and clearing costs already committed are not recoverable. Our handling fee is.
- Damage in transit
- Report within 48 hours with photos. Covered up to the value you declared — which is the reason to declare it honestly rather than low.
- Escrow (traveller route)
- Held from before the flight until the recipient confirms handover. If the item is not delivered, it is returned to you in full. If there is a dispute, we hold it until it is resolved and we do not take a side by default.
[08]If you carry for us
You must be identity-verified against the name on your ticket before you can accept anything. You inspect every item yourself, unsealed, at handover, and you are entitled to refuse any item for any reason at that moment with no consequence to you.
You are responsible for complying with the airline’s baggage rules and the customs rules of both countries. We will not ask you to carry anything dutiable without clearing it in your name through our agent, at the sender’s cost.
Your reward is released from escrow on confirmed delivery. If you cannot complete a trip, tell us before the flight and nothing is held against you.
[09]Our liability
We are liable for loss or damage caused by our own handling, up to the declared value of the item. We are not liable for the acts of customs authorities, airlines, vessels or sellers, for delay in itself, or for indirect losses such as lost profit or a missed occasion.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under Nigerian law, including for death, personal injury, or fraud.
[10]Your account and tracking
Tracking by reference is open — anyone with the reference can see the stage timeline. Tracking by phone number requires a code sent to that number, and details of your shipment are never shown without it.
Keep your reference and your phone secure. We will never ask you for a verification code, and anyone who does is not us.
[11]Ending the agreement
You can stop using the service at any time. Shipments already in progress run to completion under the terms agreed for them.
We can decline future work, and will say why. We will not abandon an item already in our care.
[12]Law, and how to complain
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and disputes fall to the courts of Lagos State.
Complain to us first — reply in your shipment’s WhatsApp thread, or write to hello@waybridge.com.ng. We would rather fix it than be right about it.
